HIAWATHA PLANNING AND ZONING COMMISSION

SPECIAL MEETING

May 7, 2013

The Hiawatha Planning and Zoning Commission met in regular session on May 7, 2013. Chairperson, Dale Schroth called the meeting to order at 6:00 P.M. Members present: Gilbert Lawrence, Don Mohler, Mark Ross, Tom Willie and Keith Sams. Staff present: Community Development Director, Mark Powers, Assistant Building Official, Jim Fisher, Building Inspector, Chris Lauderdale, City Engineer, Dick Ransom and City Attorney, Mark Parmenter. Guests in attendance: John Houser, Susan Houser, Dan Spaden, Carl & Carla Bitler, Curt Bock, and Danny Norton.

Commission Member Don Mohler moved to approve the agenda, second by Mark Ross. Motion carried.

Public Hearing- to consider Resolution for recommendation to City Council for the rezoning submitted by Jay Murphy at Rolling Prairie Estates 2^nd Addition, Hiawatha, Iowa from A (Agricultural) to R-1 (Single Family Residence).

Chairperson, Dale Schroth opened the hearing at 6:02pm.

Mark Powers addressed the Commission and attendees. He stated that the reason for redoing this rezoning request was due to three (3) residents not being notified. He stated that the City wanted all residents in the 500ft. radius to have a chance to state their concerns. He went on to say that all the statements made at the last meeting are public record and will stay a part of the rezoning file. He stated that if anyone had anything new comments or concerns to add, it too would be added to the record and sent to the City Council meeting on May 15, 2013.

Chairperson Dale Schroth asked if there were any comments opposing the rezoning. There were none.

Chairperson Dale Schroth then asked if there were any comment in favor of the rezoning. There were none.

Chairperson, Dale Schroth closed the hearing at 6:03pm.

Dale Schroth asked the Board if they had any comments or concerns.

Keith Sams commented that according to the new preliminary plat, the lots that border the County lots have been changed to show at least a 1/3 acre. Mark Powers also stated that the City did receive a signed agreement to that effect from the developer, and now can't be changed.

Commission Member, Don Mohler moved to recommend to the City Council for approval of the Rezoning Request submitted by Jay Murphy for Rolling Prairie Estates 2^nd Addition, Hiawatha, Iowa from A (Agricultural) to R-1 (Single Family Residence). Second by Keith Sams.

Roll call vote:

AYES: MARK ROSS, GILBERT LAWRENCE, DON MOHLER, KEITH SAMS, DALE SCHROTH, TOM WILLIE AND MARY CONRAD.

NAYS: NONE.

ABSENT: NONE
