The Hiawatha Public Works Department is responsible for maintenance, storm water, waste water, ROW landscaping, street signs and traffic control devices, snow and ice control, basic maintenance of all City owned vehicles, as well as assisting other Departments as needed. The Department consists of four full-time employees, Superintendent Rod Jasa, Foreman Trent Coberly, Equipment Operators Rob Opfer and Kevin Beckner, in additon to one part-time employee and one seasonal employee. Hiawatha has approximately 32 miles of roadway with a surface breakdown of 25 miles of concrete, 6 miles of asphalt, and 1 mile of seal coat/gravel.
