Water
Water infrastructure information in commercial areas and undeveloped/developable areas.
Water pressure is approximately 65-70 psi and flows from fire hydrants at approximately 2,500 gallons per minute. The Hiawatha water system is at two-thirds capacity. It can produce 2.3M gallons of water per day and it's average daily consumption is 780,000 gallons. The City's two water towers hold a combined total of 1M gallons of water.

Commercial Charges for Service:
Minimum monthly account charge on 1 1/2" meter is $22.25.
Per 1,000 gallon charge is $3.76 and occasional water sales are $1.00 per 100 gallons.

Natural Gas
MidAmerican Energy purchases and supplies natural gas to customers at cost. The base rate the company charges for the delivery of natural gas, which is set by state utility regulators, has been the same in Iowa since 2002.

Garbage/Recycling
The City of Hiawatha licenses all refuse haulers authorized to pick up garbage within Hiawatha. You must contact and pay the refuse hauler of your choice. If you want to haul something to the landfill, please call Bluestem Solid Waste Agency at (319) 398-1278, to obtain their regulations.
