Full-Time Firemedic (Firefighter-Paramedic)

Employment Status: Full-time, FLSA NON-EXEMPT.  

Regular Hours: The incumbent shall be required to work weekdays, evenings, nights, holidays and weekends as scheduled.

Tentative Start Date: September 2015 

Residency Requirement: Within 5 miles of the Hiawatha Fire Station.

Job Summary: The Fire Medic protects life and property by performing emergency medical service, firefighting, hazardous materials, fire prevention, education, and training duties.  Maintains fire and EMS equipment, apparatus, and facilities.  This position provides administrative support to staff through various duties as assigned.

Specific Qualifications:

  • Current IOWA EMT-PS (PM) certification
  • Iowa Firefighter 1 certification, Firefighter 2 within first year.
  • No less than 3 years experience in ambulance and emergency medical operations including patient care and transport.
  • Current ACLS, BCLS, and PALS or equivalent certification
  • Valid, unrestricted Iowa Chauffeur's (class D) license.
  • Must be able to speak, read and write the English language.
  • Must meet the physical requirements for the position. Pre-employment background, physical and drug screen required.

Specific Qualifications:

Three years experience in the fire service with transport EMS experience. Certification as Paramedic Specialist, Firefighter 1, and related training. Possession of valid Iowa driver's license.

Emphasis on this position is the delivery of Advanced Life Support EMS, however, applicant must have the ability to function as a firefighter, including performing interior operations wearing an PPE and SCBA, and the driving and operating of various fire apparatus.

Candidates are required to complete pre-employment, post offer physical, drug screen, and background check.
