Once in a while an opportunity comes up to report great news that has been the making for many months.

Hiawatha is once again growing. The absolute voluntary annexation of approximately 350 acres was completed September 18, 2009. The City now has land to expand in several different zoning classifications after almost being landlocked for several years. The City will probably see new residential development leading the pace in this newly annexed area.

Our new growth area is north of Tower Terrace Road, West of I-380 and along Loggerhead Road, with potential for residential housing and commercial development. The City will begin water and sewer system design with installation to be completed by next year.

The City will additionally provide public safety services immediately.
