The 2018 All Iowa Young Adults Read winner, Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse, is set in Nazi-occupied Amsterdam. Searching for a way to support her family and rebel against the Germans, Hanneke the black-market delivery girl, is struck with an impossible task. She must find a missing Jewish girl before she is captured by the Nazis.
Join us at Hiawatha Public Library as we discuss the book, watch firsthand accounts from Dutch World War II survivors and try out a meal made by Hanneke’s mom, from the book. This event is free and open to the public.
