COVID-19 is rapidly changing the way we\u2019re handling programs and events at the City of Hiawatha. At this time, the Hiawatha Parks and Recreation Department, with the support of the Market Manager, have decided to push back the start date of the Hiawatha Farmers Market to the first Sunday in June, June 7th<\/sup>.<\/strong> \u00a0This decision did not come lightly as we know vendors need a place to sell their goods and consumers need a place to buy. However, we feel it\u2019s in the best interest of all parties to continue to limit close contact to prevent the spread of COVID-19.<\/p>\n

If you find yourself in need of food United Way is vital lifeline for many Iowans who need resources. Now that 211 call centers are helping triage COVID-19 symptoms, it’s possible the centers could get busy. Contacts for other food resources in Iowa (in addition to calling 211):<\/p>\n

1. Iowa’s food banks. Contact info for each food bank can be found at:\u00a0https:\/\/www.feedingamerica.org\/find-your-local-foodbank<\/a><\/p>\n

2. The Iowa Food Assistance Hotline helps people apply for Food Assistance. Call: 855-944-3663<\/span><\/p>\n

3. WIC provides critical nutrition services for pregnant mothers & children 5 & under. They’re working to provide flexible services during the COVID-19 crisis. Call: 800-532-1579<\/p>\n

4. The Are Agencies on Aging offer a variety of services including home delivered meals. Lifelong Links call center has information and services for vulnerable older adults age 60+ and adults with disabilities age 18+. Call: 866-468-7887.<\/p>\n
