Hiawatha Farmers Market\u00a0will kick off this Sunday, May 2 and will continue every Sunday through October 31st from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM. We have a lot of returning vendors and a few new vendors too!<\/p>\n
In order to keep our market a safe environment for both vendors and shoppers, Hiawatha Parks and Recreation has come up with guidelines to follow as stated in the following paragraphs. Our hope is to allow these guidelines to soften and even be eliminated as our community becomes vaccinated and herd immunity is reached. Until then, please follow the guidelines we have put in place and reach out if you have any questions or concerns.<\/p>\n
The Hiawatha Farmers Market will open on Sunday, May 2nd, 10:00am – 1:00 PM, in the Guthridge Park 10th Avenue Parking Lot.<\/p>\n
If you are sick with any of the following symptoms, please stay home: fever, cough, shortness of breath, sore throat, muscle fatigue, chills, shaking with chills, loss of smell or taste. Other symptoms such as headache or digestive symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain or lack of appetite) are potential symptoms related to COVID\u201019 and may prompt further screening, action or investigation.<\/p>\n
If you believe you have been exposed to someone with COVID\u201019, or have symptoms of illness, you may not go out in public. Older adults and people of any age with serious underlying medical conditions \u2013 including serious heart conditions, chronic lung conditions, including moderate to severe asthma, severe obesity and those who are immunocompromised, including through cancer treatment \u2013 may have a higher risk for severe illness from COVID\u201019. We want to minimize the risk of spreading COVID\u201019 within our farmers market, so if you are sick or have been exposed or are at higher risk for severe illness \u2013 stay home, do not go to the farmers market.<\/p>\n
Prohibited Activity for Vendors and Customers<\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 No community or agency display tents.<\/p>\n \u2022\u00a0Sampling allowed in premeasured containers.<\/p>\n \u2022 No line of standing customers outside the market\/at the entrance or exit of the market.<\/p>\n Sanitation Measures <\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 All market staff, volunteers, and vendors must wear face coverings when interacting with each other and unable to maintain a 6-foot distance.<\/p>\n \u2022 Market staff and vendors must routinely clean and disinfect tables, common areas, and other contact points with products recommended by the Iowa Public Health (IPH) Department and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control (CDC).<\/p>\n \u2022 Market vendors must use an alcohol\u2010based hand rub (ABHR) with greater than 60 percent ethanol or 70 percent isopropanol and routinely wash hands between transactions.<\/p>\n Setting up the Market <\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 Market manager (or a designee) will place vendors accordingly to promote social distancing. There will be one open stall between each vendor (9ft).<\/p>\n \u2022 Market managers will post clear signage with \u201cMarket Rules for Customers\u201d at the entrances to the market.<\/p>\n Customer Walk\u2010Through <\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 Market staff must place signs throughout the market and remind customers of the 6 feet distancing while inside the market area.<\/p>\n Market Vendors <\/strong><\/p>\n \u2022 Market vendors must wear sanitary face coverings and follow hand sanitizing\/washing measures at regular intervals. Gloves recommended whenever possible.<\/p>\n \u2022 Market vendors must remain in their booths.<\/p>\n \u2022 Market vendors must provide a barrier\/distance at the front of their booth to provide 6 feet of distance between the vendor and the customer.<\/p>\n \u2022 Market vendors must place all items out of the customer\u2019s reach, vendors must hand items to the customer for purchase.<\/p>\n \u2022 Market vendors must display a clear and legible price list of items for sale and remind customers please no touching at the front of their booth.<\/p>\n \u2022 Market vendors must manage and dispose of their own waste safely.<\/p>\n \u2022 Market vendors are recommended to price items in even dollar amounts to limit cash handling, and use electronic payment whenever possible.<\/p>\n Market Rules for Customers <\/strong><\/p>\n Do<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n \u25cf Cover your face \u2013 Please wear face coverings. Customers are strongly encouraged and recommended when you can\u2019t obtain 6ft distancing.<\/p>\n \u25cf Wait your turn \u2013 up to 2 customers per vendor at a time.<\/p>\n \u25cf Shop independently when possible<\/p>\n \u25cf Social distance \u2013 Keep, at minimum, 6 feet of distance between yourself and other customers, vendors, and market staff.<\/p>\n \u25cf Electronic Payment \u2010 Please use electronic payment or credit cards where you can. Follow instructions carefully from vendor on how to use credit card with them.<\/p>\n \u25cf Wash your produce \u2013wipe down any packaging with anti-viral solution when you get home.<\/p>\n Don\u2019t<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n \u25cf No lingering \u2013 Do not linger or congregate inside of the market. Spend as little time as possible at each Vendor tent to allow a continuous flow of customers through the Market.<\/p>\n \u25cf You must move continuously through the market.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Coming to the Hiawatha Farmers Market may not be the same experience as before, but the market is dedicated to mitigating the effects of COVID\u201019 by staying in compliance with these protocols and ensuring a safe place to purchase food.
