Friends of Hiawatha Parks and Recreation Foundation supports the Parks and Recreation Department in many ways including fees and transportation for Adventure Camp, monetary donations for new park equipment and water fountains, funding outdoor movie nights and more. When the derecho hit Hiawatha on August 10th it took out over half of their park trees. The Friends group didn’t hesitate in finding a way to help rebuild their canopy. Together the designed t-shirts with a catchy phrase, “Hug A Tree They’re COVID free Help Rebuild Our Canopy” and started fundraising.
