Right-of-Way Tree and Hanger removal to begin Monday, October 19, 2020

Hiawatha Storm Recovery: Tree Removal and Hanger Removal in the Right-of-Way.

HIAWATHA, IA – October 16, 2020 – In a continued effort to clean up damaged trees as a result of the recent Derecho storm, the city has hired a contractor to remove trees and tree hangers that may be considered a safety hazard beginning Monday, October 19, 2020.

Trees between the back of curb and the sidewalk or within the cities right-of-way are currently marked with an “X” or a dot, indicating removal or cutting branches just beyond the break of a limb.  This work will not entail pruning back to the crouch of another branch. Trees scheduled to be removed will be cut near the base of the tree during this effort.  A future project will result in grubbing out the stump.

If you park near a tree that has been identified as being removed or trimmed, please refrain from parking adjacent to these trees between the hours of 7 am and 7 pm.  Work is expected to last throughout the community for up to 6 weeks.

We thank you for your continued cooperation as we try our best to bring things back to a sense of normalcy.
