Hiawatha contracted with Illowa Construction to clean and fill over 20,000 feet of existing paving joints on various streets in Hiawatha. A sealer of soft asphalt material will be applied that is able to accommodate the concrete slabs expansion and contraction. The sealers purpose is to prevent water, ice and dirt from getting into the joints which can cause freeze/thaw damage to the street during winter months. One lane of each street will be closed while the joints are routed and cleaned before the sealer is applied.
The project was funded with the Road Use Tax and is scheduled to be completed in August.
