All-Inclusive Playgrounds approved for Guthridge & Tucker Parks

Hiawatha Parks and Recreation is excited to announce the approval of new, all-inclusive playground structures at Guthridge and Tucker Parks!

Tucker Park’s playground will consist of a 10ft tower, seven climbers, five slides, eleven play panels, rocker, merry go all, monkey bars and overhead spinner. These will be placed where the current equipment is located with rubber surfacing at the base.

Guthridge Park’s playground will consist of a 8ft tower, six climbers, seven slides, eight play panels, seven balancing pod steps, one crawl tunnel and four shades. This structure will replace the outdated playground near the Green Pavilion, across from Hiawatha Elementary School and will have rubber surfacing, as well.

Councilmember Olson expressed at the approval of the project that he “opened those pages (of the council packet) and was overwhelmed.” Kelly Willadsen added that she’s “excited to have an all-inclusive option that’s updated and inviting for both Hiawatha residents and extending communities.”

City crews will be responsible for tearing out old equipment and site prepping this summer with an anticipated completion date of each playground in the of Fall 2021. The combined projects totaled just under $441,850.
