The following streets will have temporary lane closures due to the city’s annual Street Improvements project: 3rd Ave from Marion St south to dead end; Rainbow Blvd from 12th Ave to 14th Ave; Nixon Drive from Northwood Drive to Nixon Elementary School. Full road closures will be required at each location during the asphalt overlay operation.
HIAWATHA, IA – June 1 – Starting Monday, June 5, traffic may be reduced to one lane during daytime operations while the contractor replaces curb and gutter sections, ADA ramps, street patching and milling operations. Work will begin on Rainbow Blvd followed by Marion St and 3rd Ave around June 8 followed by Nixon Drive around June 16th. Starting around July 10th, the roadways will be closed in their entirety between the hours of 7:00 am and 5:00 pm for asphalt placement for approximately 2-4 days at each location beginning on Rainbow Dr followed by Marion St and 3rd Ave around July 14 followed by Nixon Dr around July 25. Neighbors will be notified prior to full closure by the contractor. Nixon Drive will require a detour.
Thru traffic should expect delays. Please try to avoid the areas during construction. All work is anticipated to be completed around August 1st, 2023.
