Stump Removal in the Right of Way

HIAWATHA, IA – Monday, June 28, 2021 – The City of Hiawatha is undertaking a stump removal project to remove tree stumps in the Right of Way by grinding them and removing the resulting chips. This is a continuation of previous work to remove storm damaged trees from last August’s derecho storm around the community.

Hennick Tree Service has been hired by the City of Hiawatha to complete the work. The project is anticipated to start approximately July 1 and end in October 2021. Progress will be dependent upon weather and other factors. The contractor plans to begin work in the vicinity of Todd Hills Road and work north to south towards Blairs Ferry Road NE.

In preparation for this work, expect to see paint and flagging from local utilities in the area. Please do not remove paint or flags until work is completed.

Once a stump is removed, the contractor will be placing topsoil and seeding the area. It will be the property owner’s responsibility to water these areas as needed after seeding occurs.

Please note the City is not responsible for the damage of any privately-owned items located within City right of way, such as irrigation systems.

Please contact Jon Fitch, City Engineer,  if you have any concerns or questions about this work.
