The Hiawatha Fire Department reminds the public to be weather aware.
Before the storm: Check the forecast, stay up to date on watches and warnings. Make sure you have a weather radio and practice your family safety plan.
During the storm: Go to your safe spot. Your safe spot should be an interior room on the lowest floor with no windows. Continue to stay updated on watches and warnings.
After the storm: If there is an injury or you have an emergency, dial 911. Contact family and loved ones to let them know you are OK. If you feel safe, assess any damage.
