The City of Hiawatha is proud to announce an initiative to honor those who are serving or have served in the United States Armed Forces.
The Military and Veteran Banner Program is intended to honor and show appreciation for past and present military personnel along with their families. Each banner will display the honoree’s name, branch, and years of service along with the names of those honoring them.
QUALIFICATIONS
In order to purchase a banner, one of the following qualifications must be met:
- The honoree is an active duty member of the United States Armed Forces
- The honoree is a retired or honorably discharged member of the United States Armed Forces who is, or did, reside in Hiawatha, or who once resided in Hiawatha and is now deceased
- The applicant is a current resident or business based in Hiawatha
BANNERS
Each banner will be 30″ x 63″ and printed double-sided and in full color. Each banner will be customized with a photo of the honoree which is provided by the applicant. There is a limit of one honoree per banner.
Banners will be displayed on light poles along Center Point Road in Hiawatha with the help of our Public Works Department. They will be displayed from Memorial Day until Veterans Day in 2024 and then again in 2025.
There is a limit of 60 new banners in 2024. These banners will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis. Your banner is not reserved until we receive payment.
Upon removal of the banner after the second year, Hiawatha City Staff will make all efforts to give the banner to the honoree or the applicant for their personal use. The City of Hiawatha will not be responsible for replacing banners that are stolen, damaged, or destroyed due to weather, age, vandalism, or any act of nature beyond our control.
COST AND DEADLINE
Each banner costs $125 which covers the purchase of the banner and installation for two years. The deadline to submit an application for a banner is March 4, 2024, or until availability runs out.

Complete the application form and provide payment by mail or in-person at City Hall.
Provide a high resolution photo of the honoree by emailing kgraber@hiawatha-iowa.com or by bringing a hard copy to City Hall to be scanned.
