Right of Way Tree Trimming

HIAWATHA, IA – December 4, 2023 – Starting December 5, 2023 the City of Hiawatha will begin trimming right-of-way trees. All trees between the back of curb and the sidewalk will be trimmed to a height of 8 feet above sidewalks and 15 feet above streets. This will be done to allow safe passage of pedestrians on sidewalks and vehicles on streets. The project will start at Miller Road and proceed east through Hiawatha. The plan is to complete all City streets and sidewalks by March 29, 2024. Trees on private property that do not meet the sidewalk or street height requirements are the responsibility of the property owner. Please be sure to check your trees that overhang these areas.
